What can I expect during a counseling session? How long does it take?

A professional counselor will greet you in the waiting room and invite you to a private room. She will spend time talking with you about what’s going on in your life and how a pregnancy may affect it.

Our professional counselors are here to listen and to help you sort through your thoughts about your pregnancy and your options—without judgment. Your counselor will listen to everything you have to say and will be there just for you. She won’t persuade you to make a certain decision about your pregnancy, but she will pay attention to your thoughts and emotions regarding each option and reflect back to you what she hears.  Sometimes, it can be helpful to hear yourself without all of the extra noise of what other people or your circumstances are telling you. A Caris counselor can help you focus and identify themes that continue to come up in while you sort through this challenging decision.

Women tell us that they find talking with a Caris counselor helpful because they feel confused by all of the advice being given by family and friends. Your counselor is a neutral person you can talk to about what you really want to do regarding your pregnancy and your future without any outside pressure.

You can talk through your thoughts about the options available to you—parenting, abortion, and adoption. A counseling session can be any length of time that works for you. They last, on average, around 45 minutes; however, we will tailor them to your needs.
