College Pregnancy

Finding out you are pregnant while still in college can feel pretty overwhelming. At Caris, our counselors are here to walk you through the process of coming up with a plan one step at a time. A Caris counselor won’t persuade you to make a certain decision about your pregnancy, but she will pay attention to your thoughts and emotions regarding each option and reflect back to you what she hears.  Sometimes, it can be helpful to hear yourself without all of the extra noise of what other people or your circumstances are telling you. A Caris counselor can help you focus and identify themes that continue to come up in while you sort through this challenging decision.

There are three options for any pregnancy: parenting, adoption and abortion. A Caris counselor will listen and help you as you think through any of these options as you are making your decision and then offer you the support and resources you need afterwards.

If you have questions, or just need to talk to someone – our counselors are here for you. Contact us today!

Unplanned Pregnancy in College

Some women tell us that it feels like their education and career dreams are over or severely altered.   Maybe you are living on-campus and away from your primary support system.  Maybe you live at home and are commuting to school, but you still feel alone because you’re scared to tell your parent or guardian.  Many women tell us that their biggest fear is disappointing the people closest to them that have believed in them and for them, such as parents and siblings. This might feel especially true while in college and pursuing the dreams that your loved ones have encouraged and supported you in chasing.

There are a lot of things to think about when facing an unplanned pregnancy.  At times, it can be difficult to know where to start.  Our Caris counselors are here to help you process what you are feeling and help you form a plan to move forward.

How We Help

Caris has trained professional counselors that can perform a free pregnancy test for you that is 99% accurate 2 weeks after a missed period.  Your Caris counselor will help you sort through your feelings about your pregnancy and help you identify practical, emotional and spiritual supports for yourself as you move forward in your pregnancy decision.   She can assist you in preparing yourself for some of the conversations that feel scary or hard such as telling your parents or your partner.  Caris wants to help you during this vulnerable time and most of all for you to know you are not alone.

Sometimes it can feel like you are the only one going through a pregnancy while in college. It is hard to feel isolated. That’s why we have Caris Connection Groups where you can meet other women going through some of the same things you might be facing. When you are surrounded by other women in similar situations, it can help alleviate those feelings of isolation. At our Connection Groups, women support, inspire and encourage each other to continue to reach their goals and dreams. If you’d like to join a Connection Group, contact us.

Our counselors are here to help and support you in whatever your needs are. Contact us and let us know how we can help you.
